The Molse Nete is one of the many small rivers that at a certain point all merge together in the Grote Nete. Its source is in Lommel in Kattenbos, it flows west, south of Wezel and north of Balen. After the crossing of the Dessel-Kwaadmechelen Canal the Scheppelijke Nete ends in the Molse Nete. This river runs just a few dozen meters south of the center and the church of Mol. Behind the sunbathing meadow of the outdoor swimming pool, the Oude Neet flows into the Molse Neet. It then meanders strongly in a westward direction along a series of ponds to eventually flow into the Grote Nete just south of Geel.
A bit of a challenge to kayak on the Molse Nete. You need a low waterlevel because of the low concrete bridges. Otherwise you get a lot of dis- and re-embarking. On the other hand, when the waterlevel is too low, you get stuck. The many meanders show that the course of the river still flows very natural. Because of these meanders it is a fun piece of river to paddle, short but diverse. It is possible to kayak on it with a seakayak except on the fish stairs in Kievermont (Geel). |
