The gulf of Morbihan
It is a natural harbour on the coast of the Département of Morbihan in the south of Brittany, France. In Breton it is called Ar Mor Bihan, meaning the little sea. There are about 40 islands in the gulf. Many are private property, so be respectful while exploring. The largest two islands, Île-aux-Moines and Île-d'Arz are free to the public.
Because of the small gap connecting the gulf with the ocean there are strong currents and in some places water speeds can reach up to 17 kph. When the tide is going out you have to be extra careful. Not only because of the sometimes strange currents but in a lot of places there are oyster farms, cages, sticks and other things under water. |
